Arsenal Open Talks With Allegri
Arsenal in talks with Juventus boss Max Allegri over taking over from under-fire Arsene Wenger next season
According to the Sun, the Gunners have been in touch with Allegri’s camp in the last seven days to discuss the possibility of the Italian succeeding Wenger.
Arsenal chiefs are wondering if Wenger should stay on, while the manager’s own failure to state his position is causing tensions.
There is also a feeling the club needs a director of football and former winger Marc Overmars has been touted for the role.
But Wenger is understood to be resistant to such a move.
The unstable situation has forced Arsenal to keep tabs on potential successors and Allegri, 49 is high on their wishlist.
He has won League and Cup doubles in each of his first two seasons at Juve and is on course for more silverware this season.
Jorge Mere On Chelsea's Radar
Chelsea are watching £25m-rated Sporting Gijon defender Jorge Mere with a view to a summer swoop.
The 19-year-old is a Spanish Under 21 international and tipped to become a mainstay of the senior team in years to come.
Valencia are favourites to land the centre half if he leaves Sporting but Chelsea are also interested and have sent scouts to watch him.
Mere is already a first-team regular for Sporting and has made over 50 appearances for the La Liga strugglers.
He has also represented Spain at every age group, winning Euro 2015 with the Under 19s, and was called up by the seniors for the first time last May.
Mere is under contract until 2020 and has a £25m release clause but it is understood Sporting are willing to sell.
