Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is aiming to “hijack” Chelsea’s move for Virgil van Dijk, while a new suitor has emerged to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic, all in today’s papers.
Spurs Plot Bayern Raid For Costa
Tottenham have built consecutive title challenges under Mauricio Pochettino, but last summer's outlay has already been largely deemed a failure with summer signings Vincent Janssen and Moussa Sissoko seen as busts.
This time around, again with Champions League football all but guaranteed to attract signings, Spurs will bid £30 million for Bayern Munich winger Douglas Costa, reports the Mirror.
The former Shakhtar Donetsk star has fallen out of favour at the Allianz Arena since Carlo Ancelotti's arrival, starting just 17 times, which has given Spurs hope of landing the 26-year-old.
The fee would match record deals for Sissoko from Newcastle and Erik Lamela from Roma, adding a serious wide option with pace and creativity.
Lukaku Pushing For Chelsea Return
Romelu Lukaku is set to anger Everton fans by pushing for a move back to Chelsea, claims the Telegraph.
The Belgian striker has been in sensational form this season and leads the race for the Premier League Golden Boot on 24 goals.
The 23-year-old is prepared to hand in a transfer request, while the Toffees have slapped a £100m asking price on their talisman.
Lukaku's desire appears to be unfinished business with the Blues, but Everton's cold relationship with the club following the John Stones saga means they have a preference to do business with Manchester United. Jose Mourinho has not yet made Lukaku a priority, though.
Ibra Offered Mega MLS Deal
Major League Soccer has offered Zlatan Ibrahimovic a £5m-per-season contract to move to the U.S. top flight this summer, according to the Mail.
The Manchester United star has been a revelation since moving to Old Trafford on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain last summer, scoring 28 goals in all competitions.
But without the second year option to stay with Jose Mourinho confirmed yet, speculation has grown that a summer departure is on due to United failing to challenge for the title and struggling to make the top four.
The 35-year-old can have the best of both worlds though as Los Angeles FC will offer him a deal with an option to move straight back on loan to United for next season as the team waits to make their MLS debut in 2018.
Arsenal Set To Strike Deal For Arda
Barcelona are out of the Champions League -- shut out over both legs by Juventus and facing a dark couple of months plotting their resurgence -- though incredibly they still have the chance to win La Liga.
A squad overhaul is widely reported, with Arsenal set to take advantage by bidding £25m for Arda Turan and CNN Turk believes the Blaugrana will accept that offer.
The former Atletico star could replace Mesut Ozil, who is yet to agree a new deal and has just 12 months remaining on his deal.
The news follows a similar story from last month, which was played down by Arda's agent at the time.
"I have not been contacted by Arsenal. As I said before, he is happy at Barcelona and has three years left on his contract," Turan's agent said.
Wenger Joins Van Dijk Race
Arsene Wenger has reportedly joined the race to sign Southampton’s £50million-rated centre-back Virgil van Dijk.
The Daily Mirror claims “Arsenal have made enquiries” about the highly rated defender as Wenger plots to use a back three on a regular basis.
Chelsea are believed to be in pole position to sign van Dijk but Liverpool, Everton and Manchester City are also keen tracking the 25-year-old.
The report claims Arsenal were in for the player when he joined the Saints from Celtic for £13million in September 2015.
Roma’s Kostas Manolas is also believed to be a target as Wenger plans to continue with the back three experiment which served them well against Middlesbrough.
Manchester United appear to be in the market for a new right-back and, according to French newspaper L'Equipe, they've found him in PSG's Serge Aurier.
The Ivorian international has agreed to join Mourinho's side, with the Red Devils chief a known admirer of the attack-minded full-back. A fee of €20m (£16.8m) has been floated after Aurier refused to extend his current contract, which ends in 2019.
While Aurier would certainly offer increased physicality and attacking impetus to a largely stale United attack, it would mean dropping Antonio Valencia -- one of United's best performers this season and "the best right-back in football."
Southampton will make a £15m move for Swansea star Gylfi Sigurdsson, reports the Mirror.
Saints will swoop should Paul Clement be unable to keep them up, with the south-coast side having followed the Iceland international for two years.
