Manchester United romped to a 4-1 victory over defending Premier League champions Leicester City at Old Trafford on Saturday, with captain Wayne Rooney sat on the bench.
A series of poor performances from Rooney meant the club skipper started on the bench for United in a dominant performance from Jose Mourinho’s men.
Following a disappointing start from the home side, defender Chris Smalling opened the scoring for United on 22 minutes – the England international’s header squirmed past Foxes keeper Ron-Robert Zieler from a Daley Blind corner.
Their second was more pleasing on the eye, Paul Pogba unlocked the Leicester rearguard with a flighted chip over the top, Jesse Lingard flicked it back to Juan Mata, who made no mistake from 15 yards out.
United managed two more goals before the break, Marcus Rashford tapped home a Mata drilled cross to make it three before Pogba registered his first United goal since his £89million move from Juventus.VIDEO: Juan Mata scored this beautiful team goal.. Claudio Ranieri’s men did get one back following the interval through a special goal from Demerai Gray but it wasn’t to be enough as United held out for an impressive victory.
