United Ready To Offer Rojo To Saints
Manchester United set to offer Marcos Rojo to Southampton in part-exchange for in-demand centre-back Jose Fonte, according to reports.
Arsenal have entered the race to sign Fonte, who is a prime target for United, according to ESPN FC.
Saints centre-back Jose Fonte “is keen to join Manchester United but he has also received an approach from Arsenal”, claimed ESPN FC on Tuesday, but United are now ready to offer Rojo as part of the deal to beat their rivals to the Portuguese player’s signature, say the Mirror.
United are believed to have held discussions with Fonte’s representatives as Jose Mourinho seeks an experienced head to add to his squad.
Rojo is seen as surplus to requirements at Old Trafford and Mourinho is trying to offload the Argentinian and replace him with the 32-year-old Fonte.
Arsenal though are now chasing the player too as Arsene Wenger desperately searches for cover for Per Mertesacker and Gabriel.
Southampton meanwhile are desperate to keep the player and have offered Fonte a new contract that would put him among their top earners.
Rafa Warns Sissoko Suitors That £35m Remains Asking Price
Rafael Benitez has told Moussa Sissoko’s suitors to ‘put their money on the table’ if they want to sign the £35million-rated midfielder.
The 27-year-old France international has been linked with a series of clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Crystal Palace, Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid, while Inter Milan and Everton are now reported to have joined the chase.
But the Magpies are yet to receive an offer anywhere near the huge price-tag they placed on their most saleable asset to ward off time-wasters and despite the player’s repeated insistence that he wants to leave and the endeavours of his representatives, no acceptable bid had yet been forthcoming.
Rondon On Barca’s Short- List
Barcelona are monitoring West Brom striker Salomon Rondon as they want a back-up striker, according to the Daily Mirror.
The Spanish champions apparently have a list with six options to strengthen their squad upfront and Albion’s 6ft 1in frontman, who scored nine Premier League goals last season is on that short-list.
Newcastle United’s Ayoze Perez, Atletico Madrid’s Luciano Vietto and AC Milan’s Carlos Bacca are also believed to be under consideration by Luis Enrique.
The Mirror claims Albion are worried the Spanish giants may now firm up their interest in the 26-year-old, who arrived for a club-record £12million fee from Zenit St Petersburg last August.
