The opening ceremony at the Rio Olympics saw the countries
of the world display colorful uniforms depicting their culture.
Nigeria has always impressed with its attire during the
event in the past but Friday's donning of tracksuits very puzzling.
Turns out there was a good reason for the simple choice.
According to Sports Journalist & OAP Sayo Owolabi, the host of Sports wrap on Radio Continental, the delegation actually unveiled a more befitting tracksuit but were forced to wear a rather appauling tracksuit outfit after outfit planned “didn't make it to Rio in time.”

This is what they showed President @MBuhari but we got to Rio & wore track suits. We need a better Sports Minister!!! pic.twitter.com/UwVYS96wxQ— SPORTSpreneur (@sayoowolabi) August 6, 2016
The uniform problem occurs just one day after the soccer
team barely arrived in Brazil before its opening-round game.
Flight issues kept
the team in Atlanta two days past the team's scheduled departure until Thursday
morning. Despite the setback, Nigeria won the opening-round contest over Japan
5-4.
The tracksuits were appauling if you compare it to the native outfits used in 2012

Olympic ceremony was great. But disappointed with Nigeria Lol. They wore Tracksuits. They should've done 2012 style: pic.twitter.com/0HYO3gkOrR— Barça Lens (@BarcaLens) August 6, 2016
The delegation's appearance in the opening ceremony brought
about underwhelming comments on social media from those unaware of the uniform
situation.
Some folks actually think the initial outfit would have been better while others prefer the tracksuts.

I still think the choice of native outfits used in 2012 would have been more befitting for the ceremony.Tracksuits be looking like Pajamas combined with lemon green Teleturbies shoe my country #Rio2016 pic.twitter.com/WDOTTYGM0S— Uche (@UcheIsClown) August 6, 2016
Hopefully the outfits make it to Brazil in time for the closing ceremony on Aug. 21.
