Nigerian duo of John Ogu and Tony Nwakaeme have progress into the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League after they helped Hapoel Beer Sheva eliminate FC Sheriff Tiraspol.
The Moldovan Champions needed just a goal to qualify following their 3-2 lost in Israel and pushed for the vital win with quality attempts from Josip Brezovec, Zoran Kvržić, Vujadin Savić and Mateo Sušić all saved by David Goresh in goal for the Israeli side as the match ended goalless (0-0)
Ogu who won the foreign player of the Year Award last season as the club coasted to the league and Cup double again played for 90 minutes despite managing his knee injury although he picked up a yellow card in the first half while his compatriot Nwakaeme who played the full game in the first leg also played for 90 minutes against Sheriff.
An excited Ogu, on his twitter page after the game: ‘Thank God for tonight’s game. Through to the next round to face Olympiacos. See you next week bro @OfficialIdeye ✌🏼️✌🏼.’
