Turkey-based forward Umar Aminu will be the last player to join up with them for the Rio Olympics as he is now expected to fly directly to Brazil.
Aminu was originally expected to link up with the team at their Atlanta training base today, like the other players led by Chelsea star Mikel Obi, but he has been held back by club commitments and will now join the squad in Brazil.
“Aminu’s club are very much involved in the qualifying rounds of the UEFA Europa League. He is a key member of the team and even scored a hat-trick for them last week in one of the qualifying matches,” an official said. “He will therefore join us in Brazil as a result of his club engagement.”
Aminu’s club Osmanlispor will welcome Nomme Kalju FC of Estonia in a third qualifying round of the Europa League on Thursday with the return leg a week later.
The Nigeria Olympic team are due to fly out of Miami, the United States of America, on Friday.
