The Nigeria professional Football League (NPFL) will be on collision course with Enyimba as they will pick their players for the friendlies against La Liga sides in Spain as against the wish of the Nigeria champions to leave them out for a must-win Champions League clash at Zamalek.
The NPFL All-Stars will test their might against the likes of Malaga and Atletico Madrid on August 12 and 13, while Enyimba must win at Zamalek on August 14 to stand any chance of qualifying for the knockout stage of the competition.
Six Enyimba stars are available for selection for the All-Stars squad, namely skipper Chinedu Udoji, Ezekiel Bassey, Chima Akas, Dare Ojo, Joseph Osadiaye and goalkeeper Theophilus Afelokhai.
“The Enyimba players will be considered for the All-Stars even against the wishes of their club because they have quality as they have been exposed to the Champions League and we must present our best in the matches in Spain,” a top team source informed AfricanFootball.com
Enyimba are pointless after two rounds of matches in a three-team Champions League Group B. They will need to win at Egypt’s Zamalek on August 14 before beating Mamelodi Sundowns from South Africa to stand any chance of reaching the semi-finals.
A final squad of 25 players for the trip to Spain will be announced on Thursday.
