Abia Warriors striker Chisom Chikatara has finally joined up with Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca, officials have announced.
The 23 year old landed in Casablanca to the warm embrace of Wydad officials Sunday morning after flying Air Maroc on Saturday evening and has agreed a three-year contract with Abia Warriors to receive a transfer fee of $500,000.
This development thus ended weeks of speculation over the 2016 African Nations Championship top scorer’s future following disagreement between the selling and buying clubs.
Abia Warriors chairman, Emeka Inyama had initially cancelled the transfer, saying his club had not received the cash Wydad promised for the 2016 CHAN revelation.
The Nigeria league club will thereafter issue an official statement blasting WAC of telling lies with indications Chikatara was now headed for Europe.
Speaking to Complete Sports, Igwe Onuoha, spokesman of Abia Warriors said that Chikatara has finally joined Athletico Wydad while chairman of the club, Emeka Inyama, confirmed the forward’s departure, stressing that the two parties have amicably resolved earlier contractual differences that had kept the deal on hold.
“I can confirm that Chikatara has finally rejoined Wydad,” Inyama state. All issues surrounding the deal have been resolved,” he added when asked if the Moroccan club have paid the contract fee that has been the bone of contention. We have settled every difference and we also took the player’s career into consideration.”
It emerged that Abia Warriors considered the player’s poor performances in recent games ( 1 goal in 9 matches) which they attributed to an unsettled mind over the Wydad deal in releasing him.
Wydad, on their part, insisted they have fulfilled all the obligations in the transfer agreement.
