Abduljeleel Ajagun turned down the chance to represent
Nigeria at the Olympic Games in favour of joining Dutch Eredivisie club Roda JC
Kerkrade on a season long loan deal from Panathinaikos, it has been revealed.
The former Nigeria U17 and U20 midfielder has agreed a move
away from the Greek giants to Roda, and the Dutch club have confirmed that the
23-year old shunned the chance to represent his country at the forthcoming
Olympic Games in favour of signing for them.
“The midfielder is currently selected for the Nigerian
Olympic team but does not go to Rio to focus entirely on Roda JC Kerkrade,” the
club said in a statement on their website heralding the signing of the former
Dolphins of Port Harcourt attacking midfielder.
Ajagun has since been handed the jersey number 14 at the
Eredivisie club. He spent part of the last season on loan at another Greek club
Levadiakos, after being deemed surplus to requirements at Panathinaikos.
