Wikki Tourist 3-1 Enyimba
Wikki Tourist have ended the nine-match unbeaten-run of Enyimba FC following their 3-1 win on Wednesday against the seven-time League champions.
The home win meant Wikki toppled Rivers United to be top on 31 points, while Enyimba slipped to third place on 30 points with a game at hand.
Enyimba fell behind at Wikki after 18 minutes when Abubakar Lawal headed past goalkeeper Theophilus Afelokhai off a free kick.
However, the champions drew level three minutes when Chima Akas conjured a magical free kick from the edge of the box. It was the defender’s third goal this season.
However, home team Wikki left it late to deliver the sucker punches when Idris Guda Mohammed fired a shot from outside the box in the 88th minute to make it 2-1.
And on the stroke of 90 minutes, Godwin Obaje scored his 13th goal of the season, when he tucked away a penalty after he was upended inside the box on his way to goal.
El-Kanemi 2-0 Enugu Rangers
Enugu Rangers were denied a chance to return to the top of the Nigeria league after they lost 2-0 at El Kanemi in a rescheduled game on Wednesday.
Fourth-placed Rangers would have toppled Rivers United at the top of the standings had they won this game.
They still have 29 points from 18 matches, while El Kanemi moved up to 13th place on 22 points.
Hosts El Kanemi raced to an early lead when Hussiani Bata tapped home after just four minutes of action.
Rangers were denied an equaliser in the 39th minute, when Osas Okoro’s free kick came off the crossbar. Ten minutes from time, El Kanemi doubled their advantage when Ibrahim Mustapha scored the penalty spot after a Rangers defender handled the ball inside his box.
