Former Nigeria U20 skipper Musa Mohammed is expected to finally make his full international debut against Mali in Friday’s friendly as the Super Eagles aim to resolve the ever-problematic rightback position.
“Musa will make the first of what is hoped to be many caps for the Super Eagles,” a team source said. The all-action Musa, 19, has long been tipped for Eagles glory after proving himself in the age-group levels.
The Turkey-based defender again showed class when he featured for the country’s Olympic team in a recent friendly against Brazil.
He is strong in the tackle, a whole-hearted battler, who pushes forward and delivers crosses for the attack to finish off.
The Eagles have struggled to line up a decent rightback since the tragic death of Olubayo Adefemi five years ago as the likes of Chibuzor Okonkwo, Godfrey Oboabona, Efe Ambrose, Akeem Latifu and lately Shehu Abdullahi have been played in that position.
“Musa is long overdue a place in the Super Eagles,” said coach Manu Garba, who gave the Kano-born star his break in the Golden Eaglets three years ago. “He is a born leader, who wants to win every game.”From Manu’s Eaglets Class of 2013, Ifeanyi Matthew, Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi have already made their debuts for the Super Eagles.
