Nigerian duo of John Ogu and Tony Nwakaeme have been crowned champions of the Israeli League with Hapoel Beer Sheva.
They needed a win against Bnei Sakhnin on the final day of the Israeli League as any slip will allow second placed Maccabi Tel Aviv snatch the the title but like lions the Nigerians helped the club fight.
But hope was restored when Israeli international Maor Bar Buzaglo levelled parity and just before half-time Maor Melikson gave Beer Sheva the lead to send the home crowd into wide frenzy.
Buzaglo completed his brace as he scored a vital third in the second half and they held on for a great win.
It was Ogu and Nwakaeme’s first major title in Europe and they celebrated with the Nigerian flag as they did the the lap of honour and took their turns to lift the well earned trophy. Ogu was named the Best Foreign Player in Israel after he was overwhelmingly voted by club Captains while Nwakaeme was runner-up
