Enugu Rangers fell 3-1 at Lobi Stars on Wednesday as FC IfeanyiUbah moved up on the Nigeria league table after a 1-0 home win over Heartland.
Four midweek games in the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL, played on Wednesday all ended in stalemate.
While the trio of Warri Wolves, Sunshine Stars and Wikki Tourists all forced their hosts to 0-0 draws, the game in Jos also ended in a draw but Giwa FC and El-Kanemi played 1-1.
In Nnewi, IfeanyiUbah's Brazilian import, William Da Silva, converted from the spot in the seventh minute to help his side beat Oriental rivals Heartland 1-0.
Here’s a review of the other two matches
Lobi Stars 3-1 Enugu Rangers
Markurdi is gradually becoming an unfavorable ground for Enugu Rangers as they were thrashed yet again by Lobi Stars in the NPFL Match Day 8 tie at the Aper Aku Stadium.
The Markurdi boys beat the table-toppers 3-1; a little bit shy of the 3-0 win they recorded in the corresponding fixture last season. Kingsley Eduwo was the hero of the day as he netted the hat-trick that ensured victory for Lobi on Wednesday.
Eduwo opened scoring in the 7th minutes off an assist from Tony Okpotu and doubled his team’s lead just before half time. Egbuchulam got one back for Rangers in the 83rd minute but Eduwo extinguished any hope a comeback for the Flying Antelopes as he completed his hat-trick moments later.
Wednesday’s win is the fourth of the season for Lobi Stars who have made a commendable start in the NPFL this term. The Pride of Benue have now gone 50 home matches without a defeat in the Nigeria Professional Football League, the current longest streak in the top flight.
Niger Tornadoes 2-1 Shooting Stars
Shooting Stars’ bad run in their away games continued on Wednesday as the Oluyole Warriors were piped 2-1 by newly-promoted Niger Tornadoes at their adopted home ground in Lokoja on Wednesday.
Shooting Stars have not secured any away point(s) this season and they were keen to get something from their trip to Lokoja but they were again unlucky in their quest. Goals from Ameh and Lukman Mohammed had given Tornadoes a 2-0 lead before Babatunde Bright pulled one back for the visitors just before half time.
Attempts by both teams to add to the tally in the second half proved abortive but Tornadoes had done enough to secure all three points that has now taken their tally to 10 from eight games.
There will be two matches on Thursday – Enyimba at home against Plateau United and Nasarawa up against Ikorodu United.
