The Nigeria Dream Team VI early Friday morning defeated their Brazil U-23 counterparts 1-0 in a pre-Olympic friendly at the stadio Kleber in Cariaca, Brazil.
Ubong Ekpai’s solitary strike in the third minute was the only goal of the game and it was more than enough to give Nigeria the win and the bragging rights over the 2016 Olympic hosts.
Brazil did paraded a strong squad which had the likes of Lazio’s Felipe Anderson, Wallace and Fabinho of Monaco, Ederson of Benfica and Manchester United’s Andreas Pereira came in as a substitute.
But the star-studded Brazil team fired blanks against the Nigerian team which kept faith in the likes of Emmanuel Daniel, Segun Oduduwa, Ezekiel Imoh, Taiwo Awoniyi and Musa Mohammed among others
As expected, Brazil was keen to save face after going behind so early in the test-match and they did push desperately for an equaliser throughout regulation time and seven minutes of added time, but the Nigeria defense and goalkeeper Daniel denied the South Americans any chance of a comeback as they head back home with excitement.
Regardless of the win, the Nigeria U-23 will need to work harder in converting their chances as they fluffed a hnadful of opportunities in the Brazil friendly
This is the third time Nigeria will beat Brazil at any level, with the previous two wins coming in Atlanta 1996 Olympics and the 2015 U-17 World Cup in Chile.
Both Nigeria and Brazil are using the friendly game to prepare for this year’s summer Olympic Games in Rio
