Hebei China Fortune FC January signing Gervinho scored the winner for his new club in their 2-1 win at Guangzhou R&F on Friday, in the Chinese Super League season opener.
The two sides were tied 1-1 after 30 minutes, with Hebei’s Turkish defender Ersan Gülüm scoring at both ends of the pitch to go from zero to hero.
And the Côte d’Ivoire international sent the visitors with a one-goal lead into the break following a 40th minute successful effort; a goal that proved to be enough for Hebei at the end of a goalless second half.
The 28-year-old winger joined the Qinhuangdao-based outfit from Serie A heavyweights AS Roma, for whom he scored 17 goals from 71 league appearances after landing in the Italian capital from Arsenal in the summer of 2013.
The ambitious Chinese club also secured the services of Cameroon skipper Stéphane M’Bia and former Paris Saint-Germain star Ezequiel Lavezzi.
