Nigerian international Alex Iwobi has revealed that it was a ‘dream come true’ to play against Spain giants Barcelona.
The 19-year-old was handed place in the starting line-up by manager Arsene Wenger in the absence of Aaron Ramsey ahead of Theo Walcott and Joel Campbell and he ceased the opportunity as he shined in his first start in the UEFA Champions League.
Iwobi who is the nephew of former Nigerian international Austin Jay Jay Okocha has now made 13 appearances for Arsenal this season, five of which have come domestically in the Premier League but it is the game against Barcelona tonight that will live in his young memory far more than others.
Speaking after the match, the youngster told BT Sport: “[Playing here] is something a 19-year-old will always dream of. It was an amazing experience and hopefully I will have more of these in the future.”
Arsenal lost out 3-1 on the night and 5-1 on aggregate to make it their sixth consecutive elimination at the knockout stage from the competition.
His Uncle Jay Jay Okocha was in the stands to watch the youngster and was very proud and pleased.
So happy watching Alex Iwobi (nephew) on the big stage.. I'm very much impressed with his performance.— Jay-Jay Okocha (@IAmOkocha) March 16, 2016
