Former Nigerian President Ibrahim Babangida has again hailed the contributions of one of the country’s football stars Tijjani Babangida, saying he is proud of what the former Ajax Amsterdam winger has achieved both on and off the pitch.
Babangida the football star will today be a special guest at the Inter House Sports of President Babangida’s school, Al Amin International School in Minna.
President Babangida and another former Nigerian Head of State, Abdulsalam Abubakar, had a private audience with Tijjani on Friday ahead of the sports event.
"I was truly humbled with what the two former Presidents said of me when I met them. They said they are very proud of me and so are other Nigerians," Babangida the football star said.
Incidentally, Tijjani Babangida got his big break in football when he featured for Niger Tornadoes of Minna, where he was nicknamed 'J5' because of his blistering pace.
It was from this club that he played for Nigeria U23 team and later moved to Europe, where he will play for the famous Ajax Amsterdam. He also played in China and Saudi Arabia.
He featured at the 1998 World Cup in France, scoring a goal in the Round of 16 game against Denmark.
Since his retirement from the game, he has tried to give back to the community with laudable projects in Sokoto and Taraba States.
