Confederation of African Football, CAF, has turned down request for a shift in the date for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations first leg qualifier between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Pharaohs of Egypt.
The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF had written to CAF requesting that the match scheduled for Kaduna be played on March 26 instead of the earlier date of March 23 at the same venue while the return leg in Egypt be played on March 29.
But CAF in its response rejected the NFF request on the basis that the March 26 the Nigerian federation are requesting will not be conducive for the two countries to travel and rest before the second leg.
Consequently, CAF has directed the NFF to refer back to the earlier date or pick another date earlier than March 26.
Reports gathered by Complete Sports gathered that the NFF are expected to pick a new date before the end of the week.
NFF Head of competition department, Bola Oyeyode when asked for confirmation stated that CAF turned down the proposed date because of closeness in the dates for the two legged game.
