Liverpool have beaten Stoke City 1-0 in the first leg of the Capital One Cup semi-final at the Britannia Stadium, courtesy of a first-half goal from Nigerian born winger Jordon Ibe.
Stoke will have been confident going into the game with their wonderful form in stark contrast to the current poor run of results Jurgen Klopp’s side have endured.
However, Liverpool dominated early on in the match but were unable to break the deadlock, with Roberto Firmino, who was playing in a direct striking role, coming close.
The Reds were then forced to make two substitutions within the first 35 minutes as Philippe Coutinho and Dejan Lovren were both forced off with hamstring injuries, with Jordon Ibe and James Milner replacing the duo.
The substitution payed dividends with Ibe breaking the deadlock in the 37th minute to put Klopp’s side 1-0 ahead. Adam Lallana broke down the right wing and his cross was met by Ibe at the back post, who smashed a low drive past Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland.

Ivorian defender Kolo Toure who had a fantastic shift at centre back also had injury concerns late on in the game.
Mark Hughes’s side now visit Anfield in the second leg needing a win if they are to progress to the final at Wembley.
