Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has dealt a major blow to Arsenal after confirming he has no desire to join the north London club. The Gunners are one of a number of Europe's elite to have discussed making a move for the Gabon international, who was named African Player of the Year at an awards ceremony in Nigeria on Thursday night.
Arsene Wenger is a known admirer of the 26-year-old, who has been in prolific form for the Bundesliga club this season, and the Arsenal boss had considered signing the pacey forward from St Etienne before he joined Dortmund in 2013.
Aubameyang has been the standout player in the Bundesliga this season and has scored a superb 24 goals in 23 appearances in all competitions attracting attention from some of Europe's heavyweights. But Arsenal, who have been linked with a £44.6million bid for Aubameyang, look set to be disappointed with the striker preferring to stay at Dortmund. 'I don't want to go to Arsenal,' Aubameyang said in The Sun. 'I won’t leave Dortmund soon.'
Dortmund have refused to be drawn on reported bids with club insiders saying it would take closer to £60m to tempt a sale.
