Barcelona striker Luis Suarez left a lasting impression on Aymen Abdennour during Saturday evening's 1-1 draw at the Mestalla, with the Valencia defender posting his battle scars on social media. Suarez scored his 10th goal in his last seven La Liga appearances for Luis Enrique's side, and the former Liverpool striker was his usual self, drawing the blood of the defender assigned to mark him all night.
Tunisian centre-half Abdennour took to Facebook to post an image of him in the Valencia dressing room after the match, with a nasty cut visible at the top of his foot and the accompanying caption '#Suarez' following a scrap with the striker in the second half.
The Barcelona striker was unable to play for his new club after signing for the Catalans at the start of last season as FIFA slapped him with a four-month suspension from all football-related activity following his alleged bite on Giorgio Chiellini in the 2014 World Cup.
There is no suggestion that Suarez intended to leave Abdennour with similarly painful wounds, but in-coming Valencia boss Gary Neville may well have heightened the defender's awareness of Suarez's slippery antics having witnessed them on many occasions in the Premier League.
The lethal marksman notched his 44th goal in just 62 appearances since completing his move from Liverpool shortly before the hour-mark, shrugging off Abdennour in the process before blasting the ball past Jaume Domenech at his near post.
The goal was not enough to extend Barcelona's lead at the top of La Liga, however, as Santi Mina rescued a draw for the hosts through a well-taken finish with four minutes remaining.
