The Premier League returned this weekend with the talk of the week being Jamie Vardy. The English international was able to break the record set by Ruud van Nistelrooy against Man Utd but was not enough to see them winners with the game ending 1-1.

David Silva returned for Man City after a long while out, and it was a fight till the end in the game between Bournemouth and Everton with the teams canceling each other out deep into stoppage time. The week ended with a whole lot of people on the injury table and I guess the season really has started, and big congrats to our own man Ighalo for getting on the scoresheet in Watford’s win over Aston Villa.
After The Storm…
The calm has definitely come for Anthony Martial. The Man Utd forward had 0 shots on target and gave the ball away 23 times in the game against Leicester. The French man attempts could be exonerated for being pushed out wide to accommodate a poor Wayne Rooney but his needless giveaways is something to wonder about.
Anthony Martial Had No Shot On Target Against Leicester City
Martial broke into limelight with his run of four goals in as many as four games, and now has gone on a dry run and comparisons to Thierry Henry are beginning to whistle out. The striker is 19 and the pressures of a great club like Man Utd should not be put on him when a certain Rooney is there but hey, it was just something we learnt this week.
Liverpool To Make UCL.
And so could Tottenham. But the Kops change in form is our particular highlight. Forgive us for not counting Leicester City as the would-be contenders for Champions League spots, they have a pretty tough run coming up. If they navigate, well till then.
Liverpool Celebrate Milner's Goal From The Penalty Spot
Liverpool’s 1-0 win against Swansea was far from the win at Etihad against Man City. If by anything, we have learnt that Liverpool can win ugly as well. They are six points of league leaders City, and follow up teams dropping points. Klopp could just secure a little expected return to champions league.
Far Bigger Than Bib Throwing.
Diego Costa’s throw of Bib towards Jose Mourinho cannot be overlooked. And while learning of Costa’s antics would not be a new agenda, it suggests discord between the two. The Spaniard and Portugese had a go at themselves in the midweek Champions League tie and it somehow led to Costa being left out of the starting lineup.
Costa Flings His Warm Up Bib, Narrowly Missing Out Jose Mourinho
To heat things up more, Mourinho had the player have some warm up only to bring on another substitute which left the player visibly frustrated. Jose could appear all smiles and say this is being blown out of proportion. The follow up weeks would be more telling. If indeed Costa’s run at Chelsea might just be cut short.
Eagles Soar… McClaren Sour.
The ex-English national manager would have been delighted when his team took the lead at Selhurst Park against Crystal Palace but what it did was rattle the aviary. Pardew’s boys replied by putting 5 past the Magpies, some coming in a space of 5 minutes.
Big Decisions To Be Made, Time To Wield The Axe?
Now the big worry if for Mike Ashley, has he knows the situation all too well. Newcastle are 19th in the league and the Sportsdirect’s owner would be wondering if he should cut his losses now starting with Steve McClaren.
Black Cats Claw Their Way Up.
In the other part of the Tyneside, Sunderland were able to climb out of relegation places with their 2-0 win over Stoke City. It would be the first time the Cats got out of the zone and the 3-5-2 formation that Allardyce seems to be working with might be doing the trick.
Happy Moments Returning Back To The Stadium of Light
Patrick van Aanholt’s shift to wing back seems to work magic for the player short of confidence. Sunderland travel to North London to face an Arsenal side itching to amend wrongs in the past weeks; how many lives would Big Sam’s black cats have to be able to stop a Gunner’s barrage.
