Southampton 0-3 Everton- Kone Helps Toffes In Win
Ivory Coast forward Arouna Kone played 80 minutes and provided an assist as Everton romped to a 3-0 win away to Sadio Mane and Victor Wanyama’s Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
The former Elephants striker set up Romelu Lukaku’s opening goal in the 22nd minute with a peach of a cross and provided superb support for the Belgian, who scored the Toffees’ second on the stroke of half time. Ross Barkley netted the final goal late on.
Mane and Wanyama were two of the better performers for the home side, who were disappointing overall following their 2-2 draw with Newcastle United last weekend.
Mane, though, was guilty of missing a great chance to hand the Saints the lead, just moments before the Toffees counter-attacked and Kone set up Lukaku for the opener.
Both Mane and Wanyama produced fine saves from goalkeeper Tim Howard, without which the match would have take on a different complexion.
Tottenham 2-2 Stoke- Diouf Steals Point
Goals from Eric Dier and Nacer Chadli appeared to be sending Spurs to their first win of the season but, to their credit, Stoke refused to give up and in a spell of late pressure scored twice inside five minutes, first through a Marko Arnautovic penalty on 78 minutes and then through Diouf after he had connected with Stephen Ireland’s left-sided delivery at the near post.
Mame Biram Diouf simply refused to be denied. Having seen two headers saved spectacularly by Tottenham’s returning goalkeeper, and new captain, Hugo Lloris, the forward did everything he could to make sure the one he delivered on 83 minutes finally beat the Frenchman.
And it did to cap a remarkable game here in which the hosts led 2-0 at half-time but ultimately left with only a point.
Swansea 2-0 Newcastle- Ayew On Song Again
Swansea City continued where they left off last season – make that last week – with Bafetimbi Gomis scoring his seventh goal in his past eight Premier League appearances.
André Ayew also repeated his scoring debut at Chelsea on opening day, to see off a Newcastle United team who were down to 10 men for most of the match after Daryl Janmaat’s senseless sending off.
West Ham `1-2 Leicester- Mahrez Secure Win
Leicester held on to beat West Ham and continue their 100% winning start to the season under Claudio Ranieri.
Shinji Okazaki put the Foxes ahead, heading home the loose ball after goalkeeper Adrian blocked his volley.
Riyad Mahrez made it 2-0 before half-time with a powerful finish for his third goal of the season.
Watford 0-0 West Brom- Ighalo Fails To Inspire Hornets
Watford are still waiting for their first Premier League victory since 2007 after they were held to a goalless draw by West Brom.
The Hornets dominated the match but could not break through a well-organised West Brom defence.
Odion Ighalo had the hosts' best chance but put a diving header wide from six yards.
Meanwhile Brown Ideye was not included in West Brom’s team for the game and Victor Anichebe was an unused substitute for the Baggies
